Our tropical rainforest are believed to
be the homes of half the world’s flora and fauna. Many unique spesies found here provide food , medicine and other resources for humans. According to the National Cancer Institute, 70% of the plants which are
useful in the treatment of cancer can only be found in the tropical rainforest.
Herbal medicine has been very popular in
our local community. For generations, our fore fathers have been using a mixture of herbal roots, stem and leaves which are
dried, pounded and mixed to cure many types of diseases We should value and continue to keep this knowledge on tradisional
medicine handed down by our fore fathers.
We students of SMK Menglembu, Ipoh , Perak
hope to create a herbal garden to bridge the students, teachers and the local
community in sharing our time to plant together and to gather knowledge on the uses of
the herbal plants in a herbal garden.
With a herbal garden , we hope to instill
student awareness on preserving and concerving various living things. We want to inculcate the love for nature among students
and the local community. With these activities, we want to instill some scientific attitudes and noble values as listed below:
· Students will have an inquiring mind and a keen interest in nature and the environment.
· Students will be cooperative and be considerate towards others and the environment.
· Students will have a sense of responsibility and accountability to the community as a whole.
The creation of the herbal garden is also
in line with our objective to create an exciting, active, meaningful and condusive environment for the teaching and learning
of science and co-curricular activities. Indirectly, all these will help to improve our students’ learning skills in
English and their love for nature.
